"Knitting this floral neckpiece is as easy as 1-2-3. I used twenty-five flowers for twenty-five years, but you can alter the number to make this scarf as long or as short as you want."

I was looking for something extra-special to celebrate VK’s monumental milestone, so I decided to place a Swarovski crystal in the center of each of the flowers that make up this scarf. The flower I chose is a personal favorite: It’s on the cover of my book Knitted Flowers (Sixth&Spring Books). I make it by first knitting a classic sawtooth edging with five repeats. The top of the edging has eyelets that I use for gathering the center. Form the flower by pulling the gather, then tying it tightly. After you complete all of the flowers, stitch them to each other and attach them to a long length of the sawtooth edge. Voilà: instant glamour. Happy anniversary to Vogue Knitting, and happy knitting to you.
1) After knitting the star-point pattern for five repeats, cut the working yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread the tail into a tapestry needle and weave it through the eyelets. 2) Secure the end of the edging to the beginning, creating a circle. Gather the points by pulling the tail tightly to close the hole, as shown above. The garter edge will pucker into the center blossom.
3) On wrong side, close remaining hole with tail. Weave in ends. With sewing needle and matching thread, secure crystal bead to the center of the flower, as shown above. 4) The scarf edge is created by working the same sawtooth pattern as used for the flowers, continuing the repeats to double the desired length of the scarf.
5) Fold edging in half and begin placing flowers in the center, alternating colors as desired. Secure flowers to each other, then to the edging, using backstitch.
