Happy Wednesday, knitters, AND welcome to the very first entry of the VK blog! Now we can keep you in the loop about site updates: new pattern postings, chat updates, solutions to common user difficulties, etc.––brought to you by me, Amanda, online editor at VK. We’ll also feature posts from our esteemed editors and news about the knitting world at large, so be sure to stay tuned.

Nicky Epstein's Knitting Never Felt Better First, we’d like to direct our attention to the 2008 IPPY Awards, presented by Independent Publisher magazine. The incomparable Nicky Epstein won the gold medal in the How-To category for her stunner of a read, Knitting Never Felt Better. Sasha Kagan’s Crochet Inspiration pulled in the bronze in the same category. Go, needlearts, go!

On a sportier note, baseball season is upon us, and Stitch N’ Pitch 2008 is in full swing. Coming up on Friday is the Texas Rangers vs. the Washington Nationals, so if you’re in the DC area, grab your yarn and needles and go! Another reason to make the trek: Nationals Park just opened this year and is the nation’s first major professional stadium to become LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver certified by the U.S. Green Building Council. In other words, it’s brand spankin’ new and eco-friendly to boot––sounds like a fabulous knitting venue to us.

Not in the DC area? Check out stitchnpitch.com for a game near you.

Go, Nicky!

Knitting Never Felt Better is simply beautiful! Congrats to Nicky on the award. Speaking of beautiful...Signature Scarves will be a fearsome contender for a IPPY 2008. Go, Nicky!
